VBMA Invites the Community to Participate
in Public Art Project During July 27 Free Admission Saturday
Additional Exhibition-Inspired Events Scheduled Throughout the Summer
Posted July 10, 2024
This month, VBMA presents Billboard Bonanza, a large-scale public art project inspired by the visiting Rock ‘N’ Roll Billboards of the Sunset Strip exhibition. The special activity is part of the Museum Studios program for Saturday, July 27, a free admission day at the Museum.
From 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Museum guests can paint a section of a pre-designed image celebrating the vibrant and dynamic spirit of the rock ‘n’ roll era.
“This community billboard project was inspired by the public and interactive nature of the billboards showcased in the Rock ‘N’ Roll Billboards of the Sunset Strip exhibition,” shares Sara Klein, VBMA Director of Education. “The Museum Education Team worked with local artist and VBMA Museum Art School instructor Barry Shapiro, who brought his expertise in community art projects to design an image that celebrates the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll at the VBMA. This initiative celebrates the legacy of billboard art and emphasizes VBMA’s commitment to fostering inclusive and participatory art environments.”
Guests can also enjoy docent-led mini-tours of the VBMA and discover complementary themes in the widely popular Rock ‘N’ Roll Billboards of the Sunset Strip: Photographs by Robert Landau exhibition.
Those seeking more rock ‘n’ roll nostalgia should mark their calendars for these upcoming VBMA events:
