VBMA Summer Interns Assist with Collections Documentation
Posted August 29, 2024
Under the direction of the Vero Beach Museum of Art Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell and with the support of Collections and Exhibitions Assistant Bailee Radakovich, two summer interns, Leena Alkayaly and Isabella Thomas, have diligently worked on several projects that will have a lasting impact on the Museum.
Leena Alkayaly, from Vero Beach, is studying Creative Writing and Art History with a minor in Studio Art at the University of Central Florida.
Isabella Thomas, from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, is studying Art History at the University of Kentucky.
Leena and Isabella have diligently cross-referenced works in the Museum’s collections database to identify objects needing reference images. With Bailee’s assistance, they photographed selected works and logged details about each artist in the collection, confirming life dates and compiling a list of copyright holders and artist representative contacts.
The comprehensive information compiled through this project will enable the VBMA to request and share collection images and research on the Museum’s website, future catalog projects, and promotional materials.
The pair also documented hundreds of artworks, noting subject matter, style, and other vital details that will inform a thorough collection analysis underway by the Chief Curator
